WRAPPING UP OUR WEEK IN COLORADO

This was one of our most eventful trips to Westcliffe, Colorado, where Cara’s family has owned a ranch since the 1980s. We were awestruck by the ferocity and size of the nearby Spring Fire, which turned into one of the top three biggest wildfires in Colorado history. We monitored two baby Horned owls, who we thought would be flying by the time our stay was over. Stunning sunrises, sunsets and lightning. There were deer everywhere, including my first sighting of seven young bucks in velvet. Keep scrolling down to see all of the postings.

A half mile from the ranch we ran into seven young bucks, their horns still in velvet. We stopped the car and Cara got this sweet photo.

Big House on the Prairie: On our way back from Westcliffe we always pass Supermax, where some of the infamous convicts are being held. Among them: Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, abortion clinic Bomber Eric Rudolph and Terry Nichols, who was convicted of carrying out the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
