CAGE RAGE: Nicolas Cage heading for Cannes with an axe to grind...
Nicolas Cage’s latest movie has been selected to screen during an independent piece of the Cannes Film Festival.
Cage stars in “Mandy,” a bloody action thriller that one critic dubbed “Sundance’s hottest midnight movie.”
Cage, who has lived in Las Vegas for more than a decade and won a Best-Actor Oscar 22 years ago in “Leaving Las Vegas,” plays an axe-wielding man bent on extracting several pounds of flesh after his wife is killed by drugged-up bikers.
One scene, in particular, “is destined to become one of the all-time Cage Rage moments in cinema history,” according to Dan Casey of Nerdist.com.
The film was one of 17 picked for the festival’s parallel sidebar Directors’ Fortnight, the 50th edition. The Directors’ Fortnight is a showcase for independent shorts, feature and documentaries and held in parallel with the legendary film festival.
Casey added, “Cage fully commits to the role and delivers a performance that is both staggering and staggeringly weird in the best way possible.”
